As I stated with regard to Goldman Sachs, I’m only concerned with highlighting the sites that really should know better. Today’s target, review is Automotive Design Constultancy, Italdesign
I have to say that I am incredibly disappointed with this website. I love cars and I really appreciate a lot of the beautiful creations that Italdesign have contributed to the world. So saying that this is an awful website, pains me more than usual.
Italdesign have designed the some of the most beautiful cars of recent years such as Alfa Romeo Brera, 159 and 156. They’ve designed the Maserati 3200GT, the funky 2001 Volvo Safety Concept. Before the Mclaren F1 was invented they designed my favourite supercar, the prototype BMW Nazca. They were the one’s responsible for the much loved Back to the Future car, the De Lorean DMC-12.

So for a company with some of the world’s best designers to put up with a website “best viewed in IE 5.x” is nothing short of scandalous. The website is grey and obressive. The logo looks completely uninspiring and the best space is taken up by black space. The navigation is all coated in a thick layer of grey. The highlighted sections above do it a favour, so check out the site itself to see.
The greatest car designers in the world should have no trouble coming up with something close to a good looking website, I know I could design a good looking car. It might not be practical but it would look good. If they can’t do it in-house they should bring in some professionals and design something that reinforces their reputation as great designers, not undermine it.
Your website is your public face, your soapbox, your business card and your reputation. Being crap online is a sign you don’t care, or that you are getting complacent. For a company in their line of work Italdesign have no excuses.
